Home Remodeling in Greater Boston

Remodeling is about making a home fit the way you actually live in it. Whether that is reclaiming a basement, reworking a layout, or refreshing dated rooms, we plan it, build it, and finish it with one crew.

Whole-home remodel in progress with new framing and drywall in a Boston triple-decker

VB Construction remodels homes throughout Greater Boston — basements, living spaces, and full interior or exterior updates. Because we self-perform the core trades, a remodel does not get handed off to a rotating cast of subcontractors. The same team that frames the work hangs the drywall, lays the floor, and sets the trim.

Older Boston homes reward that approach. Plaster walls, settled framing, and decades of previous remodels mean almost every project turns up something behind the wall. We plan for those conditions, flag them early, and price them honestly instead of hiding them in change orders.

Below are the remodeling services we focus on. Each one can stand alone or roll into a larger renovation — and we will tell you up front which approach makes the most sense for your home and budget.

Older homes also carry a legal duty: the EPA requires lead-safe work practices in homes built before 1978, so any remodel that disturbs old paint is handled to that standard.

Remodeling is the heart of what we do, alongside our full general contracting services that keep every trade under one roof.

Remodeling that respects an older home

Greater Boston's housing stock skews old, and that shapes every remodel. We work around knob-and-tube wiring, plaster-and-lath, balloon framing, and tight triple-decker layouts every week. The goal is a remodel that looks built-in and original, not bolted on — which means matching trim profiles, blending plaster, and keeping sightlines clean.

It also means correcting the things a remodel exposes. If we open a wall and find undersized framing, old water damage, or a wiring hazard, we tell you and fold the fix into the plan so the finished space is sound, not just pretty.

Questions

Remodeling FAQs

Do you handle design, or do I need an architect?

For many remodels — a basement finish, a room reconfiguration, interior updates — we can plan the work directly with you. For structural changes or additions, an architect or engineer may be required, and we will coordinate with them. We will tell you early which path your project needs.

Can a remodel be done in phases?

Yes. If the full scope is more than the budget allows right now, we will help you stage it so each phase stands on its own and the later phases build on the earlier ones without re-work.
