Flooring Installation & Repair in Greater Boston

Beautiful flooring starts under the surface. A floor is only as flat, quiet, and durable as the subfloor and prep beneath it — which is why we treat what is under the floor as carefully as the floor itself.

Freshly installed white-oak hardwood flooring in a sunlit renovated Boston room

VB Construction installs and repairs flooring across Greater Boston: hardwood, engineered wood, laminate, and luxury vinyl plank. Before any new floor goes down, we check the subfloor for level, squeaks, and moisture, and correct what we find — because installing over an uneven or failing subfloor telegraphs every flaw up through the finished floor.

Older Boston homes bring their own flooring challenges: settled and out-of-level subfloors, multiple layers from past projects, and original hardwood worth preserving. We work with what the house gives us, leveling and prepping so the new floor performs and the transitions between rooms stay clean.

Whether you are flooring a single room, a whole renovation, or repairing damage and squeaks, we handle the prep, the installation, and the transitions so the finished floor lies flat, runs quiet, and lasts.

Moisture is the hidden enemy of any floor, and the U.S. Department of Energy on controlling moisture in floors and foundations guides how we check and prepare a subfloor before installing.

Flooring is one trade within our broader remodeling work, and it often finishes off a larger remodel.

Subfloor prep is the whole game

We flatten high and low spots, secure loose subfloor to stop squeaks, and check moisture before installing — especially over concrete or in basements, where moisture can ruin a wood floor from below. Acclimating wood flooring to the home before installation prevents the gapping and cupping that come from skipping that step.

Questions

Flooring FAQs

Can you install new flooring over my existing floor?

Sometimes, depending on the existing floor and what is going on top. In many cases the better result comes from removing the old material so we can inspect and correct the subfloor. We will assess yours and recommend the approach that gives a flat, lasting floor.

Do you refinish existing hardwood?

Our focus is installation and repair, including weaving in new boards to match existing hardwood. For full sand-and-refinish work we will point you in the right direction, and we coordinate it within a larger remodel when needed.
